There are many ways to be healthy. You should eat right, exercise regularly and a whole lot more. As for spiritual and mental exercises, you can pray or do crossword puzzles. But there is one thing you can do that keeps you sharp physically, mentally and spiritually. What I’m talking about here is yoga. An meditation techniques that has been around for hundreds of years. So what is it about it and its various yoga positions? Well read on and find out.

Where did yoga originate from? From a country whose history and culture is as diverse as any other country out there, or maybe even more so. That country is India, home to Buddhism, the fourth largest religion after the big three. A country with such a diverse and healthy culture should know what it’s doing when it started yoga. And with the years that it has survived, you just know that it works. You might also be interested to know that yoga was first practiced by the Buddha himself.

So, a meditation technique that was established by the enlightened Buddha himself. What now? Well if you are a Buddhist, it would mean a lot of course, but if you are a normal practitioner then it adds to the glorious history of the art. In the beginning, of course yoga positions are not as diverse and numerous as it is today. It all started with the lotus position. What is it? Well if you can imagine the Buddha sitting cross legged, then you have just pictured the lotus position. Of course today the number of positions has grown exponentially. But in the end, the essence of the original lotus position is maintained.

The question now is, which yoga position is right for you? It all depends greatly on your needs of course. If you are just after the meditation aspect of yoga, then the lotus position is enough for you. But if you want to experience the full blown yoga experience, then you must learn the other positions. If you want a combination of meditation and physical honing, there is a position for you. If you want something that hones the mental and physical, there is one as well. If you do your research, you will find that yoga has a cornucopia of positions that you can use. Any combination of the three, mental, physical or spiritual, can be achieved. Of course you can also achieve all three if you are expert and serious enough. All you need is to do some research.

Now, if you want to learn more about yoga positions, you can visit the nearest yoga instructor and have him or her teach you what you want. But if you don’t have the time to go to a yoga instructor, then all you need to do is search the Internet for the best reference material to show you all the positions that you need. So you don’t really need to go to an instructor just so you can learn a yoga position or two, all you need is a little click here and there and you will have the best reference material you will ever need for yoga positions.
