9 Feb 2010There have been isolated reports of pregnant women taking prenatal vitamins, have noticed an increase in hair growth and thickness. However, there is still no formal scientific studies to confirm that this is indeed the case. How is it connected hair growth taking prenatal vitamins? What makes up the prenatal vitamins?
Due to the specific needs of pregnant women, prenatal vitamins differ from a multivitamin for high amounts of calcium, iron and folic acid. These three vitamins are particularly important for pregnant women. Folic acid has been shown to prevent spina bifida, a birth defect involving the neural tube closure, which eventually becomes the central nervous system of a normal human body. Pregnant women need more calcium for stronger bones needed to carry the baby to term. They also need more iron in the body because during pregnancy, helps the body produce new blood to carry nutrients and oxygen to the baby.
